MERRY ROCKETTE'S WEEK!

The countdown to the big show is: 4 days!

This is how happy my wife makes me:

Thank you to my sweet, perfect, lovely girl.  So looking forward to a whole 36 hours of you!!

Welcome to the Week O' Rockettes!

A long time ago (1 year to be exact) in a far away place (Rockefeller Center) my amazone wife (I'm pretty sure anyone reading this was at our super secret wedding in September!) proposed to me and swept me away to NYC for the Rockette's Christmas Spectacular.  Last night she deemed me "surprise sad" and gave me the greatest present ever -- time with her.  At the Rockettes! And a night in NYC! Almost exactly one year after she made me the happiest girl ever.

What could possibly be better than seeing the Rockettes??  What if they were...the Rock-Cats (and not the minor league team)??

Well, I don't know if it would be better, but it would be awesome!!

Steam Train Dinner

Gorgeous Fiance
Essex Railroad

Last weekend, my lovely fiancĂ© was sad to have missed so many weekends in a row with me (she is a lucky attending, I am a lowly resident), so we planned a marathon weekend (not in the literal sense, thank god) of diners, trash television, kayaking, dinner dates, family, and baseball games.  It was fantastic! By the end I had to sleep through half my shift at work just to recover :)

We are getting married in 275 days (thanks, theknot.com!) at a warehouse in Connecticut.  An adorable steam train runs past our chosen venue and offers dinners and mystery theater events in the summer.  We went for a dinner and had a blast!  The train winds through Connecticut's countryside for 45 minutes, switches tracks, and makes its way back to Essex.  The food was OK, but the view and the people watching were superb.  And the company was alright, too ;)

274 days in 20 minutes...

Fat Babies

Some babies are just fat babies.  It happens.  Its cute.  They usually grow into relatively normal looking human beings.

But sometimes babies are just too fat.

This week I had the pleasure of delivering a full term baby who weighed over 10lb.  That's a big baby.  And miraculously it came out without the use of any sharp instruments or permanent damage to baby.  But seriously, that's big.

I also had the decidedly less awesome experience of delivering a nine and a half pound baby over a month early.  So it was a short as a preemie would be, but with lots of extra weight packed on.  Hard.  Once the head was delivered, the massive shoulders didn't come easily.  When we finally pulled the "little" guy out, it looked like one of those movie babies.  You know the ones -- they are actually 2 months old and cast as the newborn in any medical drama.  Or like a linebacker who was a little out of shape.  Ahhh...life in the US.

Nothing feels better than feeling loved.  Thanks, boys :)

Gobble gobble

Every morning after I get cut free from my 12 hour shift and head home, I pass this guy.  Every morning, same time.  He must have a very reliable watch.

Saturday, July 7, 2012

In anticipation of starting 6 weeks working nights, my fiancĂ© knew I would need some cheering up.  And probably that she would, too.  So she contacted a local animal rescue and found a lovely woman who fosters kittens.  And we adopted!  TWO!!  Which is probably certifiably crazy given that we already have two grown cats and a dog. But it is making nights so much more bearable to have them ready to cuddle me when I stumble home!

Our little bundles of joy (and tiny teeth) are Rocky and Roo(ster).  Rocky is the devil (pictured), but too cute to be mad at.  Roo is (possibly) mildly MR and just about the sweetest thing ever.  He cries when you leave the room and comes to the baby gate whenever we are in the kitchen and not paying enough attention to them.  Rocky, though, makes it his mission to escape from the unfurnished living room they currently call home as often as possible.  Which has lead to some very fashionable choices in home decor.  Most notably, baby gates with upward extenders of cardboard covered in loose tinfoil taped to the door jams.  Very Homes & Gardens.

Our neighbors may assume schizophrenia.  And I wouldn't blame them.  But these little guys are worth it!
Funny how life gets away from you in residency.  I'm on nights now, so apart from eating to stay awake and gossiping with the 3rd shift, I'm free to amuse myself however I can.  I googled my fantastic med school roommate's blog and was surprised to see it had been updated!  Consider me impressed.  And newly motivated to write again.  I think I'll start tomorrow...
